Mae hong son: Heavy rains have caused flash floods and landslides in Mae Lan Noi, Khun Yuam, and Mae Sariang districts. Officials are urgently assessing the damage.
According to Thai News Agency, heavy rainfall in Mae Hong Son province has resulted in flash floods and landslides in three districts, with the worst affected being Mae Lan Noi district. A bridge collapsed, and fallen trees blocked Highway 108 near Mae Lan Noi Darunsikkha School and Ban Thung Ruang Thong last night. Authorities cleared the trees and reopened the road, allowing traffic to resume.
Flash floods from the Mae Lan Noi River overflowed into homes in the Mae Lan Noi community and caused the bridge connecting Ban Saraphi and Ban Pa Mak to collapse. The Mae Lan Noi Subdistrict Municipality and related agencies are currently assessing the damage and assisting with the recovery efforts for flood-affected homes. Initially, water levels have receded to normal.
In Khun Yuam district, the school and village were flooded. The village headman reported that this was the fourth flood of 2026 and the most severe so far. Floodwaters completely inundated the lawn, walkways, and three school buildings, including the meeting room, kitchen, and teachers' rooms, with mud and silt flowing into them.
In addition, 20 houses and agricultural areas were damaged. There were no reports of injuries. The water level has now receded, with only standing water remaining on the school's football field, which is flowing into the Mae Sapae stream. It is expected that the school will be completely dry by tomorrow morning. The Khun Yuam Subdistrict Administrative Organization, teachers, villagers, and relevant agencies will work together to clean classrooms, houses, and shops in Mae Sapae Tai.
In Mae Sariang District, the Mae Sariang River has overflowed its banks, flooding the road in front of Wat Saeng Thong, before the bridge connecting Ban Lum and Ban Thung Phrao. The flooding also affected Ban Pa Kluai, making the Ban Mai-Wang Yao road impassable for all vehicles. Volunteer defense personnel, along with local leaders, are closely monitoring the situation.
