Phuket:Heavy rainfall has led to a new wave of flooding across several parts of Phuket, inundating roads and residential areas in the Chalong, Wichit, and Karon sub-districts.
According to Thai News Agency, the heavy downpour has overwhelmed local drainage systems, impacting neighborhoods that were still recovering from recent floods. Municipal authorities in Phuket Town have issued a red-level alert for residents near the Bang Yai Canal, advising them to move belongings to higher ground due to the heavy runoff and the risk of further flooding if the rains continue.
Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul stated that tourist police and local authorities have been deployed to assist visitors. Despite the runoff from the mountains causing damage in some areas, no injuries among tourists have been reported. Affected visitors were moved to safe zones and are expected to return to their accommodations once conditions improve.
The minister also expressed confidence that the economic impact will be limited, as the situation has not resulted in travelers canceling or delaying their trips. Meanwhile, authorities have been mobilized to monitor water levels, expedite drainage, and implement disaster relief for affected residents.
