Accra:Residents in Thailand's southern and eastern regions should brace for heavy to very heavy rainfall from October 19 to 25. Continuous rain is expected, with some areas experiencing strong gusts of wind.
According to Thai News Agency, the weather conditions are due to a monsoon trough initially passing through the lower southern region and a southwest monsoon over the lower Andaman Sea. Following this, the monsoon trough is expected to move northward, while a high-pressure area or cold air mass from China spreads over the upper northern and northeastern regions and the South China Sea.
From October 21 to 25, increased rainfall is forecasted in the lower northeastern region, the central region including Bangkok, the eastern region, and the upper southern region. The public is warned of potential dangers such as flash floods, landslides, and mudslides, particularly in hillside areas near waterways and low-lying areas.
The Meteorological Department advises the public to stay informed through weather updates, especially in areas with accumulated rainfall. Travelers should avoid routes prone to flooding, and sailors in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are urged to exercise caution, as waves in areas with thunderstorms may exceed 3 meters in height.
The provinces expected to experience heavy rainfall have been updated. In the southern region, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Ranong, and Phang Nga are affected. The central region, including Bangkok and surrounding areas, and the eastern region, including Nakhon Nayok, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat, are also at risk. However, not all areas within these provinces will experience heavy rain.
