Heavy rain forecast for 15 southern provinces through Monday

People living in Thailand’s 15 southern provinces are advised to brace for heavy to very heavy rain today (Sunday) and tomorrow, while small vessels should remain ashore due to rough seas.

The Meteorological Department said today that a low pressure cell, which is looming over southern Thailand and northern Malaysia, is intensifying as it moves towards the Andaman Sea, while a moderate northeasterly monsoon is covering both the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea.

This weather system will bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Ranong, Phang-nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun provinces.

Waves in the Gulf are expected to reach 2-3 metres, but higher in stormy areas. Sailors are warned to exercise caution while navigating in the Gulf and the Andaman Sea and to avoid storms, while small vessels are advised to remain ashore.
