The Ministry of Finance is planning to distribute health cards to government officials to control overspending of the budget on unnecessary medical costs for civil servants and families.
This was disclosed by the finance minister yesterday.
Finance Minister Apisak Tantiworawong said the idea of issuance health cards similar to credit cards was intended to control the unnecessary medical expenditures.
Initially the ministry plans to issue such health credit cards for five million civil servants and their families to control expenditures when they receive free medical service at state-owned hospitals.
It is now being studied and it is expected that the Comptrollers General's Department will be able to start distributing the healthcare cards to civil servants in May or June.
He said the ministry has also conducted a study on the possibility of allowing insurance firm to manage hospital costs for civil servants and see to it which method will be more effective to control overspending of the budget on civil servants' healthcare service.
