Gunmen Disguised as Electricians Kill Police Sergeant in Pattani Province


Pattani: Gunmen ambushed and opened fire on a police sergeant’s vehicle at an intersection in Mayo District, Pattani Province, killing him. Gunmen disguised as electricians ambushed and shot dead a police sergeant from Ratapanyang Police Station in Yaharing District at the Ban Muang Wan intersection in Mayo District, Pattani Province.



According to Thai News Agency, at approximately 5:25 PM today (May 4th), an unknown group of assailants ambushed and shot dead Police Sergeant Mayaki Diyoh, 50, an officer from Ratapanyang Police Station, Yaharing District, Pattani Province, at the Ban Muang Wan intersection, Village No. 2, Sakobon Subdistrict, Mayo District, Pattani Province.



Initial investigations revealed that after completing his duty and finishing his shift, the deceased was driving his pickup truck home when, at the scene of the incident approximately 300 meters from his home, he was repeatedly shot at by a group of assailants, resulting in his death.



Based on the circumstances, it is estimated that there were about four perpetrators using two motorcycles. They disguised themselves as electricians repairing wires at the intersection and, taking advantage of the victim’s vehicle slowing down to prepare to turn, opened fire repeatedly before speeding away towards Sakho Tai Subdistrict.



Following the incident, a joint force of security personnel, local leaders, and members of the public cordoned off the area, controlled the situation, and facilitated investigations at the scene. They are also urgently gathering evidence to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice, as well as expanding the investigation to identify any related networks.
