Guiyang: Before the War of Resistance Against Japan, Guizhou Province was rarely mentioned because of its remoteness and ruggedness. But in times of life and death and the defense of national sovereignty, Guizhou Province became a strategically important front and rear area. It can be said that the various ethnic groups in Guizhou Province made significant contributions to China's victory.
According to Thai News Agency, to mark the 80th anniversary of China's victory in the Anti-Fascist War in 2025, the International Communications Center of Guizhou Radio and Television Station invited six young people from the United States, Pakistan, Costa Rica, and Tajikistan to Guizhou Province. Led by local youths, they toured wartime historical sites, uncovered the stories behind them, and experienced the transformation of Guizhou Province today.
Gavin Andrew Cooley, a young American whose grandfather fought in World War II, said after visiting Jiuzhou Airport in Huangping with a local pilot, he felt the enduring connection between China and the United States and learned how soldiers and villagers at that time worked together to build the airstrip.
Pakistani medical student Younas Muhammad, who traveled with Yang Hongmei, the descendant of a doctor from the Chinese Red Cross Medical Rescue Unit, to Tuyunguan in Guiyang, learned of Dr. Guy Courtney and the remarkable contributions of international medical teams who crossed borders to help China with a heart of humanity.
Tim, a young American, and his friend Bubble visited Xu Li, a former art teacher and president of the Dushan Artists Association. Guided by their Chinese friend Luna, they viewed an oil painting depicting the Qiannan Shibian event through art, making them aware of the cruelty of war and the value of peace.
Jos© Luis Fonseca Conejo from Costa Rica and Gharimmamadova Sabzon from Tajikistan were mentored by Zheng Xiangyi, a senior from Zhejiang University, and Gong Qingmin, a professor from Guizhou University. They learned about the reasons why Zhejiang University was forced to migrate to Guizhou Province and discovered how the Chunqian Club used Chinese comedy to motivate people during the war.
These young people from China and abroad traveled together along the historical route, crossing the mountains and rivers of Guizhou Province. They witnessed the significance of Guizhou's past and experienced China's high-quality development, highlighting the values of lasting peace and the courage to resist aggression.
