The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has detected a new group of state officials engaged in the misappropriation of state funds allocated to temples for renovation and repairs purposes.

The finding came after NACC investigators began probing into 20 other temples nationwide, in addition to the earlier 12 temples where grafts were discovered.

Director of the National Office of Buddhism (ONAB) Pol Lt Col Pongporn Pramsaneh said NACC investigators found another group of ONAB officials involved in the frauds of state subsidies to temples.

He said he was awaiting for the investigation reports while the ONAB has worked in paralleled with the police.

He added that the ONAB has now appointed a special committee to expand its investigation into allegations of corruption in its subsidy scheme for temples nationwide, and another special team to retroactively investigate whether there were any misuse of state funds in the past without any time frame.
