Bangkok: The Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) has extended an invitation to sports fans to rally behind Thailand's athletes as they aim for the highest number of gold medals at the 33rd SEA Games.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Kongsak Yodmani, the Governor of SAT, expressed optimism following the Thai athletes' successful start on the first day of the games, which began on December 10, 2025, in Thailand. The nation celebrated its first gold medal victory with "Nano" Watcharakul Limjitrakorn's win in the women's individual freestyle poomsae taekwondo event. Additionally, athletes in sports such as cycling and jujitsu also contributed significantly to Thailand's gold medal tally.
Dr. Kongsak emphasized that many sporting associations are meeting their goals, and he remains confident that the target of 241 gold medals, set by SAT and various associations, is achievable. He urged fans to continue supporting the athletes in their pursuit of reclaiming the title of overall gold medal winner, a title Thailand last held at the 28th SEA Games in Singapore in 2015.
Addressing concerns regarding Cambodia's withdrawal from the competition, Dr. Kongsak clarified that Cambodia's decision was based on security concerns and not a critique of Thailand. He assured that contingency measures are in place to ensure the competition schedule remains unaffected. Dr. Kongsak also praised the Thai fans for their hospitality during the opening ceremony, especially their warm welcome of the Cambodian athletes.
