Government Mobilizes Troops and Machinery to Address Severe Flooding in Thailand’s South.

Bangkok: The government is taking decisive action in response to severe flooding affecting the southern regions of Thailand, deploying troops and machinery to provide urgent assistance and minimize losses for the affected communities. According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Government Spokesperson Mr. Anukul Prueksanusak has urged residents in the lower southern region to be vigilant against potential dangers from heavy rainfall, flash floods, and forest runoff, particularly in areas prone to thunderstorms. He advised small boats in the lower Gulf of Thailand to remain ashore from November 28-30, 2024, and warned of waves impacting the coastline. Additionally, Mr. Anukul emphasized the importance of health precautions in the upper provinces due to colder weather and the increased risk of fires resulting from dry and strong conditions. The Deputy Spokesperson highlighted that temperatures across Thailand are expected to drop in the morning, with decreases of 1-3 degrees Celsius in the North, Northeast, Centr al, and East regions. In Bangkok and its vicinity, temperatures will decrease by 1-2 degrees Celsius. The Andaman coast in the South faces a 70% chance of thunderstorms and heavy rain, especially in Krabi, Trang, and Satun. Similarly, the Gulf of Thailand is expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in several areas, including Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. Residents in southern regions are advised to remain alert for signs of landslides and flash floods, particularly in areas receiving heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm in 24 hours. Indicators such as cloudy water and floating debris should prompt immediate caution. Mr. Anukul expressed the government's deep concern for the affected citizens, acknowledging the severity of the flooding, which is considered the worst in many years. He extended support and encouragement to the southern communities, assuring them of the government's swift response to provide necessary aid and minimize losses. The army and relevant agencies have been mobilized to support the flood relief efforts in the South.
