Bangkok: The government invites Buddhists to participate in activities on Visakha Bucha Day 2568, both central and regional, to offer as a Buddhist offering. Mr. Anukul Prueksanusak, Deputy Government Spokesperson, revealed that on the occasion of Visakha Bucha Day 2025, the government encourages Buddhists to remember the kindness of the Lord Buddha and join religious activities organized between 5-11 May 2025 in both central and regional areas to continue Buddhism and apply the principles of related teachings to daily life.
According to Thai News Agency, the activities organized promote morality and ethics in the religious dimension in the form of creative and innovative media, such as chanting, meditation, practicing Dhamma, listening to Dhamma sermons, answering Dhamma questions via online platforms, producing creative media as a channel to disseminate religious teachings, and opening religious spaces as a source of learning to enhance understanding of important Buddhist days.
Mr. Anukul stated that the central activities, in collaboration with Wat Suthat Thepwararam and the Department of Religious Affairs, include a Buddhist prayer ceremony, alms giving to 19 monks, a candlelight procession, and the opening of the museum of the palace of Somdej Phra Ariyawongsakattayan Somdej Phra Sangharaja (Pae Tissadeva Mahathera) on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at 7:00 a.m. at Wat Suthat Thepwararam, Bangkok.
In addition, the 76 regional provinces have integrated the organization of activities between 5 - 11 May 2025 by collaborating with the Provincial Cultural Office, government agencies, private sector, and public sector to organize Buddhist activities specific to each area's context. This includes promoting areas for organizing festivals, traditional events, and Buddhist activities, as well as promoting career creation by selling products and services related to faith, beliefs, and cultural traditions.
Visakha Bucha Day falls on the full moon day, the 15th day of the 6th lunar month, which this year falls on Sunday, May 11, 2568. It is significant for three aspects of the Lord Buddha: birth, enlightenment, and nirvana. Additionally, it is recognized as an important international Buddhist day for Buddhists worldwide, following a resolution by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999.
'The government invites the public, government agencies, and private sectors to join the activities organized to pay homage to the Buddha and continue Buddhism by adhering to the precepts, reducing, and refraining from vices throughout this Visakha Bucha festival,' said Mr. Anukul.
