Bangkok: The government has initiated a working group to oversee the drafting of the new constitution, ensuring it progresses alongside efforts to address economic and livelihood issues. Mr. Anusorn Eiamsa-ard, a party-list MP for the Pheu Thai Party, highlighted the importance of linking the new constitution to the people. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anusorn discussed the remarks made by Mr. Panus Wacharasindhu, a spokesman for the Prachachon Party and chairman of the House of Representatives' Committee on Political Development, Mass Communications, and Public Participation. Mr. Panus had mentioned that if the government adheres to the 'original plan,' a new constitution may not be drafted by the Constitution Drafting Assembly before the next election. Despite this, Mr. Anusorn assured that both the government and Pheu Thai Party are committed to the successful drafting of the new constitution, actively monitoring the process to ensure it aligns with the government's announced policy plan. The draft ing process hinges on the completion of the referendum act. If the process takes 180 days and MPs confirm the original draft law approved by parliament, it will be considered sanctioned by the joint meeting of the two houses. However, finding a compromise or alternative methods could expedite the process, preventing any delays in drafting the new constitution. Mr. Anusorn stressed the active involvement of the government and Pheu Thai Party, stating that working groups have been established to closely monitor the situation. He emphasized that while drafting a new constitution is crucial, addressing the country's economic challenges is equally important, and both tasks must progress concurrently. Mr. Anusorn further elaborated on the need for the new constitution to involve participation from all sectors, ensuring its relevance to the people. He stressed the importance of a meticulous drafting process to avoid potential societal conflicts.
