Zurich:Leaked documents have revealed that Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, received £1.3 million in "special compensation" that was not disclosed publicly. This additional salary, received in 2024, has intensified the pressure on Infantino, raising questions about his credibility, as it was not included in FIFA's annual financial reports.
According to Thai News Agency, FIFA's statutes mandate that the remuneration of its president and other officials must be publicly disclosed. Infantino, who has been in office since 2016, has previously committed to transparency regarding his salary and bonuses. However, US tax documents indicate that while his declared salary for 2024 was £3.88 million, he also received £1.3 million from FWC2026, a company created to manage the 2026 World Cup, without public disclosure in FIFA's financial accounts.
The situation is expected to escalate as Infantino is scheduled to meet with the 36 members of the FIFA Council in Zurich on Thursday. This meeting follows past controversies, including his unsuccessful attempts to sell competition rights without board approval.
A FIFA spokesperson, in response to the allegations, told Sky Sports that the organization does not pay a second salary to the president and complies with all compensation reporting requirements. The spokesperson confirmed that the president's income is determined by an independent compensation subcommittee and that FIFA's accounts have been audited according to Swiss and US tax laws.
