A trash separation facility in Kanchanaburi was officially opened Wednesday by Maj-Gen Narongphan Chitkaewtae, commander of First Division of the Royal Guards.
The facility project is the joint cooperation of the military and 18 local administrations in Kanchanaburi to get rid of about one million tonnes of garbage stored at a 100-rai land fill in Khao Thong, Tambon Kaeng Saen, Muang district.
Owned by the state, the land plot was designated by the army to the First Division to manage and utilize. However, the land was left abandoned for more than three decades during which it was turned into a land fill by garbage collectors who dumped trash there.
