State-run Transport Company on Monday arranged for several buses to send returning passngersd at Morchit bus terminal to the BTS elevated train station at Chatuchak park without any charges.
Tens of thousands returning passengers from northeastern and northern provinces were stranded at the bus terminal due to acute shortage of taxis and other public transport.
One of the passengers, Mrs Napa Chanthabut, said she had been waiting for a taxi for about two hours and still could not get one.
Mr Nopparat Karoonyavanich, deputy managing director of Transport Company, estimated that about 200,000 bus passengers would arrive at Morchit bus terminal from their home provinces on Monday.
Traffic at the bus terminal was so bad that make it difficult for taxis to get to the bus terminal, prompting many cabbies to skip the terminal for fear of getting stuck for hours there.
