Former Abbot of Wat Sanam Chai Renounces Monastic Life

Ayutthaya: The former abbot of Wat Sanam Chai, Mr. Sombat Khlaichinda, has confirmed that he has disrobed and will not be returning to the temple. Mr. Khlaichinda, previously known as "Tid Sombat," stated that he is "tired of many things" and has made the decision to sever his monastic vows permanently.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Col. Pongphop Prasobpichai, Superintendent of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Police Station, recently questioned and spoke with Mr. Khlaichinda regarding his decision. The former abbot revealed that he is resolute in his choice not to return to the temple or accept any positions there. He emphasized that his decision was primarily driven by a sense of weariness that had accumulated over his time as an abbot.

Pol. Col. Pongphop has expressed concern about Mr. Khlaichinda's transition to lay life, as he has spent a significant portion of his life in the temple. The former abbot may face challenges in adjusting to new living conditions and finding employment, given his long tenure in the monastic community.
