Foreign Ministry Refutes Claims on Thai-Cambodian Border Issue


Chanthaburi: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the JBC meeting in Chanthaburi did not discuss the 1:200,000 area issue as claimed by Hun Manet. A Foreign Ministry spokesperson confirmed that the extraordinary meeting of the Joint Development Bank (JBC) in Chanthaburi Province did not discuss the 1:200,000 land area issue, as claimed by Hun Manet. He vowed not to allow the release of distorted information to affect the resolution of the Thai-Cambodian border dispute through bilateral mechanisms.



According to Thai News Agency, Nikorndej Plangkur, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, clarified the social media post by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen regarding the joint land measurement and border demarcation using a 1:200,000 map during the recent meeting of the Thailand-Cambodia Joint Boundary Commission (JBC). He confirmed that the negotiations at the extraordinary JBC meeting, held from October 21-22, 2025, in Chanthaburi Province, which just concluded late last night (October 22, 2025), were conducted based on the existing joint border survey and did not discuss or relate to the 1:200,000 map issue as reported in the Cambodian Prime Minister’s message.



Mr. Nikorndej reiterated that Thailand remains committed to resolving the Thai-Cambodian border situation peacefully through bilateral mechanisms, based on the principle of being a good neighbor. However, he will uphold sovereignty, national interests, and the safety of the people in the area as his top priority, and will not allow the release of distorted information to affect such efforts.
