Bangkok: Flooding in the southern region has prompted the Department of Land Transport to assist vehicle owners whose license plates, tax payment signs, or vehicle registration books have been damaged or lost. Vehicle owners are now allowed to use their national ID cards to apply for replacements or copies, eliminating the need for the original registration book.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, alongside Deputy Minister of Transport Mallika Jiraphanwanich, has directed the Department of Land Transport to collaborate with various sectors to ease the challenges faced by vehicle owners. Sorapong Paitoonpong, Director-General of the Department of Land Transport, announced that the department is facilitating assistance to those affected by the floods. The initiative aims to reduce costs associated with obtaining registration books from financial institutions by allowing applications using a national ID card. Vehicle owners in Songkhla Province can apply until February 25, 2026, while those in other provinces have a 60-day window from the disaster declaration date.
Vehicle owners whose registration books are lost can visit the transport office with their national ID card to request a new book. If a vehicle is under financing, owners can use their ID card to request vehicle registration information nationwide. For lost, destroyed, or damaged tax marks or license plates, owners can apply for replacements using a copy of the registration book or their ID card. Damaged original plates or tax marks should be returned when receiving new ones. In cases of loss, a statement or police report is required. If an owner cannot apply in person, a power of attorney and identification documents are necessary.
