Flood Relief Efforts Accelerate with Over 2.2 Billion Baht Disbursed

Bangkok:Flood relief funds have exceeded 2.2 billion baht in disbursement to the public, with the Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation emphasizing the speedy transfer process, aligned with the Prime Minister's policy.

According to Thai News Agency, the Director-General, Mr. Nirat Pongsitthaworn, confirmed that the central budget of 4.7 billion baht is sufficient for flood relief efforts. He highlighted that over 1.1 billion baht was transferred in a single day to 150,000 households, with funds beginning to reach bank accounts starting at 1100 AM. This rapid response is part of a proactive strategy to mitigate flood damage.

Mr. Nirat also noted that the Prime Minister has been actively involved in flood management, chairing daily meetings of the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command. These efforts have led to more efficient coordination and operations, ensuring relief payments are made swiftly. The Prime Minister's directive for immediate action resulted in expedited processing, with funds being disbursed even while floodwaters were still present.

The government remains open to discussing additional budget allocations if the current budget proves insufficient. However, with only 2.2 billion baht of the allocated 4.7 billion baht used so far, the current budget is deemed adequate for ongoing relief efforts.
