Flash Floods Cause Crisis in Suphan Buri, Impacting Transportation and Tourism

Suphan Buri:A severe crisis has emerged in Suphan Buri province due to flash floods originating from Phu Toei National Park, which have destroyed a bridge over a stream in Ban Lawa Wang Kwai, Wang Yao Subdistrict, Dan Chang District. The floods, exacerbated by continuous heavy rainfall since October 14th, have resulted in overflowing waters that swept away large trees and severed transportation routes in Ong Phra and Wang Yao Subdistricts, making them impassable for vehicles. Efforts are underway by authorities to repair the bridge and restore travel for residents.

According to Thai News Agency, Phu Toei National Park has been closed to tourism and overnight stays since October 14th due to landslides, road collapses, and the potential risk of further flash floods and inundation. The closure will remain in effect until conditions improve.

In Ayutthaya province, flooding conditions are showing signs of improvement after the Chao Phraya Dam and Phra Ram VI Dam reduced their water discharges. Despite this, the province remains heavily impacted, with 16 districts and over 70,000 households affected. Areas along the Noi River, particularly Ban Phan Subdistrict in Sena District, continue to experience significant flooding, with water levels surpassing 2 meters, cutting off roads and forcing residents to rely on boats for transportation.

As the floodwaters recede in some parts, residents are hastily cleaning mud and silt from their homes. Many have noted that this year's floods arrived later but were more intense than anticipated, providing little time for preparation and resulting in damage to household items and essential tools. Nonetheless, there is some relief as the process to apply for the 9,000 baht relief payment is more streamlined and quicker this year compared to last.
