First temporary passport office at MRT station in Klong Toey

The Department of Consular Affairs in cooperation with the Metropolitan Rapid Transit Authority on Friday opened the first temporary passport office at the underground train station in Klong Toey to provide convenience to members of the public applying for passports.

The new service at the MRT station was warmly received by the public with a large number of people showing up to apply for passports. The person who received the first queue ticket reportedly said that he left home in Nakhon Pathom at 4 am in order to arrive early at the Klong Toey passport office.

Foreign deputy permanent secretary Suwat Chiraphan said that most passport offices were crowded and the waiting queue was long as more and more Thais prefer to travel abroad for sightseeing. Also, he added that there is parking problem at most passport offices and many passport applicants have to spend long hours on the road just to travel from homes to the passport offices.

Opening a passport office at an MRT station offers an ideal option for passport applicants, said Mr Suwat, adding that the Foreign Ministry has opened a new channel through which applicants can book online for queue tickets by going to so that they don't have to waste their time queuing up at the offices.

The office hours of the Klong Toey office are from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm.
