Nakhon ratchasima: A fire broke out in the abbot's quarters of a temple in Sikhiu District, causing significant damage and leading to the discovery of a large amount of pornography. The abbot was not present at the temple during the incident.
According to Thai News Agency, the fire erupted yesterday afternoon in the monk's living quarters at a temple in Sikhiu Subdistrict. The abbot was away on a religious engagement when the fire began. Monks at the scene attempted to put out the flames using a garden hose, but the fire spread too quickly for them to manage. They then called the Sikhiu Municipal Fire Department, which managed to control the blaze in under 20 minutes.
Initial investigations indicate that the fire was likely caused by a faulty electrical outlet. The outlet overheated, causing the wires to melt and leading to a short circuit. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities reported.
After firefighters extinguished the blaze, an inspection of the living quarters revealed several fire-damaged items. Among the charred remnants, investigators found pornographic materials, including books and a fake female genitalia. Forensic experts will conduct a thorough examination of the site to establish the exact cause of the fire.
