According to Thai News Agency, the Rama 9 radio center received a report of a fire on the elevated train tracks at Tao Poon station, in front of a condominium on Pracha Rat Sai 2 Road, Bang Sue Subdistrict, Bang Sue District. The fire was described as being on the tracks. Firefighters were able to use thermal cameras and smoke ventilation equipment to access the scene. All passengers have been evacuated from the area.
Mr. Kajorn Udomthamphakdi, Governor of the Mass Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), stated in an interview that the initial assessment indicated the fire was caused by abnormally high humidity in the power rail area due to the rainy season, resulting in a short circuit. The exact cause is still under detailed investigation. Reporters also stated that BEM Bangkok Expressway and Metro informed the public that due to some electrical system disruptions, the MRT train service is closed between Bang O station and Kamphaeng Phet station. Passengers can use nearby stations. This has resulted in delays of approximately 60 minutes at some stations. The MRT apologizes for any inconvenience.
