Bangkok: The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that a devastating fire broke out at the Khlong Thom Center shopping mall on Worachak Road in the Pom Prap Sattru Phai District. The incident occurred at 8:42 PM on August 28th, leading to a significant emergency response as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
According to Thai News Agency, the fire originated on the first floor of the three-story Khlong Thom Center building and quickly spread to two adjacent four-story shophouses. The fire was fueled by a substantial amount of electronic equipment, including audio equipment, IT products, LEDs, solar cells, and automotive accessories. This combination of materials allowed the fire to burn intensely and for an extended period, resulting in the complete destruction of the shopping mall and the shophouses. The affected area is estimated to be approximately one rai, or 1600 square meters.
The fire resulted in injuries to nine individuals, who have since been transported to various hospitals. Among the injured, four people suffered from smoke inhalation, three sustained cuts from shattered glass, one person had a concrete slab fall on their right shoulder, and another experienced leg pain due to a fall. Despite the fire being extinguished by 5:32 AM, officials have continued to monitor and inspect the site to ensure safety and complete the mission. The initial cause of the fire remains under investigation, largely due to the extensive damage that has complicated efforts to determine the origin of the blaze.
