Bangkok: The Fine Arts Department has announced the launch of the 69th Public Music Project, titled "A Musical Tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother," at the Music Hall, National Museum, in Bangkok.
According to Thai News Agency, the event was inaugurated by Mr. Phanombut Chantharachote, Director-General of the Fine Arts Department, on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
The music program, held at the Sangeet Sala, is a cultural and artistic presentation organized by the Office of the Fine Arts Department under the Ministry of Culture. The Music Festival, an annual event, features a range of music and performances that highlight the nation's heritage. Scheduled every Sunday from February 1 to March 15, 2026, the festival includes six performances, each from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
The opening day commemorated the reign of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit with a special showcase of Western instrumental and vocal performances, a mourning dance, and traditional Thai dance forms such as the Khon performance. The first performance, titled "Her Majesty the Queen Mother: A Golden Lamp Illuminating the Land," featured a diverse array of acts, including a Javanese-style dance and a segment from the Ramakien epic.
Subsequent performances are set to include a variety of artistic displays. On February 15, 2026, the theme "Preserving the Wisdom and Science of Musical Arts" will present several traditional music pieces. February 22 will feature the "Luk Thung Orchestra," followed by an orchestra performance on March 1 titled "Wind Returns, Evokes Memories of Yesteryear."
The March 8 performance will showcase a blend of musical and dance acts, including Japanese-Thai collaborations and traditional Thai plays. The festival concludes on March 15 with another Khon performance from the Ramakien epic.
The public is encouraged to attend the performances at the Sangeet Sala. Tickets are priced at 20 baht per person, available one hour before each show. All proceeds will support the preservation and promotion of Thailand's performing arts and cultural heritage.
