Bangkok:Family-friendly boats are being used to push water through Khlong Prawet canal, alleviating flooding problems in eastern Bangkok. According to Thai News Agency, Uncle Thua's boat is accelerating the drainage of water from Khlong Prawet canal to alleviate flooding in eastern Bangkok, particularly in communities around On Nut, Lat Krabang, and Prawet areas. Results are expected within 24 hours. Five family-owned transport boats began pumping water under the Khlong Prawet bridge near Soi On Nut 65, a short distance from the entrance to Nong Bon Lake. Another group of three boats was pushing water into Nong Bon Canal, which has a capacity of approximately 4,000,000 cubic meters and includes an underground tunnel 5 meters wide and 30 meters deep. "Uncle Thua," or Mr. Chawalit Methayapraphas, the managing director and owner of Family Transport (2002) Co., Ltd., said that this operation will help push water more efficiently. The water is draining into the Chao Phraya River near the mouth of Khlong Phra K hanong, about 10 meters below the level of the seals. It is expected to be completely cleared within 24 hours, except for the remaining flooded areas in the side streets. Overall, the aim is to accelerate water drainage and divert excess water from the Prawet Buriram Canal into Nong Bon Lake and the Nong Bon drainage tunnel more quickly. Once the water mass is channeled into Nong Bon Swamp, the pumping station will pump the water further into the Nong Bon Swamp drainage tunnel, which then drains directly into the Chao Phraya River. This accelerated drainage process will help alleviate the flooding situation in the Prawet, Suan Luang, Lat Krabang districts and related areas, allowing them to return to normal more quickly.
