Factory Building Suspended After Wall Collapse in Amata City Industrial Estate

Bangkok: The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) has ordered the suspension of a factory building in the Amata City Industrial Estate in Chonburi Province, where a wall collapsed, resulting in one minor injury and seven damaged vehicles. The cause is being investigated.

According to Thai News Agency, the building where the wall collapsed was part of Cosmo Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd., specifically Building BG93 in the Amata City Chonburi Industrial Estate. An initial inspection revealed that the incident involved the back wall of the building. Officials from the estate reported that one individual sustained minor injuries to the shoulder and that seven parked cars were damaged. It was confirmed that there were no fatalities. Following the incident, emergency measures were implemented for safety, including the evacuation of all employees and related personnel. The building has been temporarily suspended pending a detailed inspection and assessment.

The acting governor of the IEAT, Mr. Thanawat Panyasakulwong, stated that the NLA issued an order under the Building Control Act B.E. 2522 for Cosmo Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. to suspend the building's use temporarily. This decision aims to facilitate an investigation into the cause and assess the damage. The company must inspect the damage and submit an engineer's certificate along with a summary of inspection results and proposed solutions to the NLA. Additionally, the NLA is tasked with urgently investigating the incident, analyzing the cause, and establishing preventative safety measures certified by an external safety agency. Guidelines and measures for assisting those affected by the accident were also outlined.

The building involved in the incident was constructed by Thai Nakano Co., Ltd. and opened in 2023. It received an annual building certification inspection as per letter number 1050/2024 dated October 11, 2024. Cosmo Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. is known for manufacturing mobile phone cases, tablet cases made from silicone, key chains, and products made from animal and artificial leather.
