Former transport minister in the government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Chadchart Sittipunt, is leading the Bangkok gubernatorial race among eligible voters, with the election to be held early next year, according to a poll by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA).
The survey gauged the opinions of voters of various different educational backgrounds and occupations in Bangkok by phone interview. It is the eighth opinion poll on the issue to be conducted by NIDA.
The survey shows Chadchart leading with 34.37% of the respondents polling in his favour. He is followed by the incumbent governor, Pol Gen Aswin Kwanmuang, who received 17.07% support.
Other named and unnamed candidates and undecided voters surveyed are as follows:
• 11.68% say they have not yet decided who to support
• 6.37% say they will vote for a candidate from Move Forward party or the Progressive Movement
• 6.15% say they will vote for a candidate from the opposition Pheu Thai party
• 5.54% say they will vote for political activist and consumer advocate Rosana Tositrakul
• 4.86% will vote for Professor Dr. Suchatchavee Suwansawat
• 3.30% will vote for a candidate of the Democrat party
• 2.88% will not vote for any candidate
• 2.66% will vote for a candidate from the ruling Palang Pracharat party
• 2.20% say they will skip the election
• 1.37% will vote for a candidate of Kla party
• 1.21% will vote for Sakolthee Bhatiyakul
• 0.61% say they will vote candidates from Thai Sang Thai, Thai Pakdee and Seri Ruam parties
