Former Thammasat University rector Charnwit Kasetsiri turned himself in to police at the Technology CrimeSuppression Division to acknowledge charges related to Computer Crime Act for allegedly sharing an image in the social media purported to be a brandname handbag of Mrs Naraporn, the wife of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
Charnvit however denied the charges, claiming his act in sharing the image was an expression of opinion as a private citizen who is entitled to criticize a leader who is a public figure within legal and ethical framework.
The ex-rector said that he found the charges against him to be politically motivated due to his role as a political critic in the past several years and under several governments.
He added that he felt his case was another example of harassment of freedom of expression to serve a warning to the other people to follow in his footstep.
