Bangkok: The government has announced that the new flat-rate fare for the electric train will be set at 20 baht for the entire line. This move comes as part of a broader initiative aimed at reducing the cost of living for the city's residents. Commuters will be able to take advantage of this reduced fare prior to October 1st. According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Transport confirmed that the 20 baht flat-rate fare will officially commence on October 1st. The funding for this initiative will be sourced from compensation provided by the Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) and the government budget. Importantly, this initiative will not be financed by taxes collected from residents of other provinces. Bangkok's residents contribute significantly to the national tax revenue, accounting for nearly half of the country's total taxes. This initiative is part of broader efforts to make living in the city more affordable and to alleviate financial burdens on its residents.
