Chiang mai: A 66-year-old woman embarked on a journey from Lampang province to Chiang Mai in search of true love, only to find out that her supposed romantic interest was an AI-generated pilot. Tourist police assisted in reuniting her with her family and facilitating her return home.
According to Thai News Agency, the woman was spotted by security personnel at Chiang Mai Airport, where she had arrived to meet a pilot named Chai. Upon investigation, the officers discovered that the image of Chai on Facebook was AI-generated. The Chiang Mai Tourist Police were then called in to contact her family.
The woman explained that she traveled from Wang Nuea District in Lampang Province to the Chiang Mai Arcade Bus Terminal and then took a tuk-tuk to the airport to meet Chai. Communication was challenging as she predominantly spoke the Muso tribal language and often rambled in her speech.
Further inquiries led to contacting her son, who was unaware of his mother's trip to Chiang Mai. He informed the authorities that she had a mental illness requiring medication. He requested that the police ensure her safety and assist in arranging her return to Wang Nuea. Security personnel allowed her to rest inside the building while awaiting transportation.
This morning, officials escorted her to the Chiang Mai Arcade Bus Terminal, where she boarded an 8:00 AM bus back to Wang Nuea, where her son awaited her arrival at the bus station.
