Bangkok: An 80-year-old woman, overwhelmed by her adopted son's drug addiction and erratic behavior, alerted the police to arrest him.
According to Thai News Agency, the Nakhon Nayok police engaged in a tense negotiation with Mr. Thiw, 35, who was causing a disturbance in Soi Sila Thong, Soi 2, near the village pond. Despite police orders to sit down, Mr. Thiw resisted, picked up a rock, and attempted to confront the officers. Due to his size and strength, it took nearly 10 minutes for the police to subdue him and transport him to Nakhon Nayok Hospital.
Reporters and officers interviewed Grandma Malai, Mr. Thiw's adoptive mother, following the incident. She recounted how she had adopted Mr. Thiw when he was a child, only to see him succumb to drug addiction at the age of 20. His addiction led to destructive behavior and frequent thefts to fund his habit. Despite attempts at treatment, Mr. Thiw's condition deteriorated into hallucinations.
The latest incident was triggered when Mr. Thiw demanded money from Grandma Malai, who refused. In frustration, he began to rattle the fence, causing alarm among local residents. Unable to cope with his behavior any longer, Grandma Malai has decided to relinquish her parental rights and cancel the adoption.
