Bangkok: The Minister of Education led a meeting of the Education Council, proposing three agenda items aimed at enhancing education across the nation. Prof. Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat, the Minister of Education, presided over the session, which saw the approval of significant matters to be forwarded to the Cabinet for consideration.
According to Thai News Agency, the first agenda item focused on establishing standards for the use of digital technology at the basic education level. These standards encompass four key areas: access and equity in digital technology, creative and self-directed learning design, measurement and evaluation for learning development, and support for educational stakeholders. The plan includes pilot testing in 112 educational institutions, with the aim of implementing these standards over the next three years. The initiative seeks to ensure the appropriate, safe, and ethical use of digital technology and artificial intelligence, enhancing the learning quality of students. Relevant agencies are encouraged to develop digital infrastructure and ensure equitable access for underprivileged institutions.
The second agenda item involved drafting proposals for the development of "Learning Cities" to support lifelong human development. This framework is intended to align with the modern world's changing context and aims to build a robust learning ecosystem. Key approaches include enhancing city infrastructure for lifelong learning, fostering community leader involvement, developing curricula to drive economic and local potential, and promoting a culture of lifelong learning. The Office of the Vocational Education Commission (OVEC) plans to present this as a national agenda to foster a learning nation.
The third agenda item focused on supporting remote schools under the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), particularly in highland and island areas. These schools face unique challenges, including higher expenses in transportation, management, and quality development due to their locations. The proposal suggests providing financial support through either a lump sum or block grants, tailored to the specific needs of these schools, to ensure equal educational opportunities and outcomes.
