Bangkok:The Department of Medical Sciences is taking urgent measures to address the risk of foot infections among those exposed to floodwaters by distributing 100,000 containers of antifungal ointment.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Adisorn Wathanasak, Director-General of the Department of Medical Sciences, highlighted that prolonged exposure to floodwaters significantly increases the risk of developing skin diseases such as athlete's foot. This condition can lead to severe bacterial and fungal infections if not properly treated. The recommended preventive measures include avoiding wading in contaminated water, wearing protective footwear, and washing and drying feet thoroughly twice a day.
In response to the ongoing flooding in several provinces, the Department of Medical Sciences, in collaboration with the Institute of Herbal Research and the Medical Science Center, has produced 100,000 tubs of aloe vera ointment. This ointment is designed to inhibit fungal growth and alleviate symptoms associated with athlete's foot. It will be distributed to public health agencies and flood-affected areas for immediate use by both the public and frontline workers.
