Yangon: Why do innovative agricultural solutions often fail to reach the communities that need them the most? This question became clear to me when I started working directly with smallholder farmers in an agricultural enterprise. I uncovered a harsh truth about rural families across South-East Asia: women are the backbone of agricultural labour yet remain an invisible workforce. Despite handling the most demanding field tasks and managing household survival during crises, women rarely receive formal agricultural advisory support. Cultural norms keep them in the shadows, preventing them from accessing crucial information, which becomes a significant gender equality issue, especially in the face of climate challenges such as erratic rainfall, sudden pests, or severe flooding. According to UN Women, the determination to change this reality drove me to pivot from the corporate sector to innovate at the intersection of climate resilience, gender equity, and digital agriculture. With a background in commercial br and management, NGO development programs, and agricultural technology, I founded AgriMway. This digital agricultural extension platform is designed specifically for smallholder farmers in Myanmar, with a particular focus on women and youth as primary users. To expand this initiative, I developed Agri-EmPower under the UN Women EmPower Academy. Agri-EmPower serves as an AI-powered climate advisory layer integrated into our digital community. Through this project, my team and I created a localized AI Advisory framework using retrieval-augmented generation. This translates complex, global climate data and agricultural science into immediate, practical, and locally relevant guidance for women rice farmers in Myanmar and Bangladesh. Over eight years of fieldwork have shown that digital tools alone do not change behavior. Real impact is achieved by designing systems that align with how people actually live, combining technology with trusted community partners. This model was proven effective when I led a Waste-to -Wealth sustainable agriculture training workshop in eastern Thailand through the U.S. Department of State's Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Reciprocal Exchange Project. By directly engaging with Thai smallholder farmers and demonstrating biodecomposer methods, we demystified agricultural technology. The workshop's post-evaluation revealed a 75.7 percent increase in farmers' understanding of soil biology, with 100 percent of participants committing to sustainable practices. This human-centered approach is the driving force behind AgriMway. Our community, which now includes over 15,000 followers, addresses 20 to 40 urgent crop and pest crises monthly, proving that delivery rooted in trust leads to rapid community adaptation. True youth leadership involves building bridges and creating systems change. My journey through the UN Women 30 for 2030 network, the UN Women EmPower Academy, the Harpswell ASEAN Women's Leadership Summit, and the YSEALI Professional Fellows Program has reinforced my b elief that young leaders should leverage AI and digital technologies not as corporate tools but as infrastructure translating global science into localized action. I urge international institutions and governments to move beyond symbolic celebrations of youth and women in agriculture and invest genuinely in digital agricultural extensions intentionally built for women. To my fellow young changemakers: do not wait for permission to innovate. Use your digital literacy to break silences, dismantle restrictive norms, and build the inclusive, climate-resilient future our region urgently needs.
