Deputy Spokesperson of National Anti-Corruption Commission Involved in Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident

Nonthaburi: A high-ranking official from the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has been detained following a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a delivery rider. The suspect, identified as Mr. Jarong, was apprehended with a blood alcohol level of 189 milligrams per cent, significantly above the legal limit.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident unfolded when Mr. Jarong, driving a pickup truck, struck and killed 43-year-old Mr. Sornarin, who was riding an electric motorcycle. The collision occurred at the Bang Rak Noi interchange on Ratchaphruek Road (outbound) in Nonthaburi province. Instead of stopping to assist, the driver fled the scene, leading to a reckless chase captured on video by a Good Samaritan. The pursuit ended when the pickup truck stopped due to severe damage, including a blown-out front left wheel.

Bystanders quickly surrounded the vehicle to prevent further escape attempts. Witnesses reported that the intoxicated driver exited the vehicle, causing a disturbance and attempting to leverage his governmental position to intimidate those present. The scene escalated when another individual attempted to switch places with the driver, but this was thwarted by the crowd.

The police investigation revealed that Mr. Sornarin's body had been dragged 300 meters by the truck, resulting in fatal head injuries. Mr. Jarong, who holds a senior position within the NACC, was taken to Bang Sri Muang Police Station for questioning. His blood alcohol content was confirmed to be significantly over the legal limit.

The victim's sister, who arrived at the police station, expressed the family's grief and determination to pursue legal action against Mr. Jarong. She highlighted the devastating impact of losing her brother, the family's sole provider, who left behind two young children.

Authorities have detained Mr. Jarong on charges of driving under the influence resulting in death and hit-and-run, as they proceed with legal actions in light of the clear evidence against him.
