Rangsit:Deputy Prime Minister Yoschanan visited the Rangsit Canal pumping station to coordinate efforts between the Royal Irrigation Department and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, aiming to reduce floodwaters and protect areas in Pathum Thani and northern Bangkok. He emphasized the need for urgent water management to mitigate the impact on the public.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Yotsanulok Wongsawat, inspected the operations of the Rangsit Canal semi-permanent pumping station. The visit aimed to monitor the Royal Irrigation Department's work and coordinate with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to alleviate flooding and alleviate the suffering of the people in the region.
The pumping station plays a critical role in flood prevention for two strategic areas Pathum Thani Province, including Thanyaburi, Khlong Luang, and Lam Luk Ka Districts, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Area, particularly Klong Prem Prachakorn. The station is instrumental in managing water levels and drainage between Lak Hok Subdistrict and Don Mueang District.
The facility currently operates with 20 pumps, each with a capacity of 6 cubic meters per second, allowing for a total maximum pumping capacity of 120 cubic meters per second. Presently, it operates at 78 cubic meters per second, equivalent to draining approximately 6-8 million cubic meters of water per day, depending on the Chao Phraya River tides.
The Royal Irrigation Department plans to manage the machinery by setting a maximum drainage capacity of 90 cubic meters per second, utilizing 14-15 pumps simultaneously to ensure operational efficiency and prevent pump damage.
Station staff are working around the clock with technicians on standby to address any pump malfunctions or system failures, ensuring continuous drainage operations. Mr. Yotsanu has instructed all relevant ministries and agencies to expedite emergency assistance measures for the public and ensure swift, integrated responses to flooding issues. He also directed agencies in the northern region to prepare for anticipated heavy rainfall in the coming days.
