Department of Probation Addresses Recidivism Challenges with New Law Implementation

Bangkok:The Department of Probation convened a meeting to tackle the issue of recidivism, with Minister Patcharin actively engaging in on-site discussions.

According to Thai News Agency, the meeting was attended by Police Colonel Piya Raksakul, Director-General of the Department of Probation, alongside Dr. Patcharin Samsiripong, Secretary to the Minister of the Prime Minister's Office, and her delegation. The primary focus was on implementing the Re-offense Prevention Act on Sexual or Violent Offences B.E. 2565 (2022).

The discussions aimed at understanding the challenges and obstacles faced in practice to refine the law's implementation. The goal was to prevent repeat offenses and mitigate risks threatening public and social safety.

The delegation also toured the Electronic Monitoring Control Center (EMCC) and the Public Safety Monitoring Center (JSOC) to observe the processes involved in tracking individuals with electronic monitoring devices and the technology used to support these operations.

Feedback from these observations will help the Department of Probation develop measures to ensure thorough monitoring and surveillance. The focus remains on reducing risks, preventing harm, and ensuring public safety.

Dr. Patcharin underscored the need for collaborative efforts among all agencies to effectively drive the implementation and enforcement of the law, prioritizing the safety of the community.
