The Criminal Court yesterday handed down prison sentences ranging from 8-13 years for the caretaker of Nataree massage parlour and six members of his staff for human trafficking and child prostitution charges.
They were arrested in June last year when a combined force of local administration officials and soldiers raided the massage parlour following complaints that the massage parlour employed underaged and illegal migrants for sexual services.
They were later indicted by the state prosecutor as evidence clearly showed they were guilty of human trafficking charges.
Authorities found that the establishment was involved in prostitution involving young migrant workers and Thai women aged 18 years and below.
At the hearing yesterday, the Criminal Court ruled that the caretaker, Ponganant Kanaket, along with six members of his staff were guilty of human trafficking charges, and child prostitution following a raid by authorities on the Nataree massage parlor in Huay Kwang district in Bangkok in June last year.
After hearing the case by the state prosecutor, the Criminal Court found all defendants guilty but commuted each sentence after they pleaded guilty to the charges.
As a result Ponganant had his sentence reduced to 11 years and 24 months jail term and fined 15,000 baht.
A second defendant was sentenced to 11 years and 18 months incarceration and also fined 15,000 baht.
The third, fourth and fifth defendants were given 8 years and 6 month jail terms and also fined.
The final defendant was PSS Entertainment Co. which was ordered to pay a fine of 655,000 baht.
However the owner of the parlour is still at large and warrant for his arrest has already been issued.
Authorities raided the Nataree massage parlor on June 7, 2016 after a tip-off was received that it was involved in human trafficking activities.
Authorities found 3 young Thai women aged under 18 years of age and no less than 10 young migrant women involved in prostitution which led to the legal action against the proprietors.
