Bangkok: The court has approved parole for former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who will be released from prison on May 11, 2026. Thaksin will be required to wear an electronic monitoring (EM) bracelet and will be under probation following his release.
According to Thai News Agency, the decision was made after a three-hour meeting of the Ministry of Justice's parole committee. This committee's approval was the final step in the parole process, following the recommendation of two other committees: the prison-level parole board and the Department of Corrections-level parole board. Thaksin will be subject to a four-month probation period once released.
