Court Extends Appeal Period in Thaksin Section 112 Case

Bangkok: The Criminal Court has approved an extension of the appeal period in the “Thaksin” Section 112 case, now set to expire on November 21, 2025, following a request by the public prosecutor.

According to Thai News Agency, the Office of the Attorney General has announced developments in the legal proceedings against Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra for alleged violations of Section 112 of the Criminal Code and the Computer Crime Act of 2007. These offenses were reported to have occurred in the Republic of Korea in 2015. The initial extension period for the appeal of the Criminal Court’s verdict had expired on October 22, 2025.

Mr. Sawet Aphairat, spokesperson for the Office of the Attorney General, stated that the extension was necessary due to the complexity of the legal issues and the volume of evidence that requires careful examination. Given the significance of the charges, the Office of the Attorney General aims to ensure comprehensive consideration and to base decisions strictly on evidence and legal principles. Consequently, the public prosecutors from the Office of the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutor’s Office 8, who are responsible for handling the case in the Court of First Instance, submitted a second request for an appeal period extension, which the Criminal Court granted until November 21, 2025.
