Bangkok: The Constitutional Court has unanimously accepted a petition from the Election Commission against Kongkiat Ketusombat, accusing him of knowingly concealing a theft case. This decision has led to the revocation of his eligibility to run for Member of Parliament, with a directive for Kongkiat to respond to the allegations within 15 days.
According to Thai News Agency, the Election Commission filed the petition under the Organic Act on the Election of Members of the House of Representatives B.E. 2018, Section 54. The petition sought to revoke Kongkiat's right to run for election, alleging that he participated in the election despite being ineligible and failing to disclose his conviction for a property crime, specifically theft, under the Criminal Code, Section 335.
The Constitutional Court reviewed the case and confirmed that it met the criteria and conditions set forth in the relevant legal acts, including the Organic Act on the Election of Members of the House of Representatives B.E. 2018, Section 54, and the Organic Act on the Procedure of the Constitutional Court B.E. 2018, Section 7 (13). Consequently, the court resolved to accept the petition for further consideration and ruling. The court has informed the petitioner and instructed Kongkiat to submit a statement of clarification within the specified 15-day period, as per the Organic Act on the Procedure of the Constitutional Court B.E. 2018, Section 54.
