China’s Economic Growth Evident as Consumption Surges During Qingming Festival

Beijing: According to Xinhua News Agency, China's Ministry of Commerce reported a significant increase in consumption during the three-day Qingming Festival holiday. This surge in consumer activity was largely due to the overlap of the Qingming Festival with the spring break for primary and secondary school students in various regions.

According to Thai News Agency, During the holiday, from April 4 to 6, the average daily sales of major retail and catering companies monitored by the ministry saw a year-on-year increase of 2.4 percent. Consumer spending on hotel accommodations across major platforms rose by 2.6 percent year-on-year, while intercity travel experienced a 15.1 percent increase.

The ministry also highlighted that car rental bookings surged by approximately 40 percent year-on-year, fueled by an increase in family travel during the holiday period. Additionally, there was a noticeable rise in revenue from online sales of smart products, including smart glasses, smart watches and wristbands, and smart blood glucose meters.

Transportation authorities estimated approximately 845.38 million passenger trips across China during the recent holiday period, marking a 6 percent increase year-on-year. The average number of daily trips reached around 281 million.

This year's Qingming Festival, also known as Ancestor Worship Day, occurred on April 5th. It is a time for people to remember and pay respects to their deceased ancestors, while also offering a brief respite for those wishing to engage in outdoor activities and appreciate the natural scenery.
