Chiang rai: The Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) has launched a mobile crane service at Chiang Saen Commercial Port, offering promotional deals for the first six months to support container shipping between Thailand and China.
According to Thai News Agency, the PAT has introduced this service at the Chiang Saen Commercial Port in Chiang Rai province to bolster container transportation between Thailand and Southern China. The initiative includes special fee rates for an initial six-month period, aimed at enhancing logistics and encouraging the use of waterways by businesses. The inaugural container handling operation took place on September 2, 2026.
Sub-Lieutenant Rattakorn Khiaopaisan, Deputy Director of the Port Authority of Thailand for Finance and Corporate Strategy, and Acting Director of PAT, detailed that the port has been upgraded to support containerized cargo transportation. This upgrade involves the procurement of mobile cranes to facilitate container lifting at the port, thereby improving convenience, speed, and efficiency, while building confidence among cargo owners, shipping lines, and logistics operators.
Strategically situated, Chiang Saen Commercial Port connects with southern China via the Mekong River, particularly along the route to Guanlei Port in the People's Republic of China. The newly introduced mobile crane service is expected to enhance the port's capacity for handling containers, thereby efficiently supporting the expansion of transportation along this critical route.
Moreover, the Port Authority of Thailand has introduced a special fee rate valid for six months to help reduce logistics costs for businesses and encourage the use of container transportation services via PAT.
The Acting Director emphasized that the initial service on September 2, 2026, was well-received, with 15 incoming and 15 outgoing containers, totaling 30 containers handled. PAT is committed to promoting the continued utilization of this service.
