Chaiyachanok Clarifies Mother’s Actions Do Not Violate PDPA

Bangkok: "Chaiyachanok" has clarified that his mother's dissemination of personal information of the opposing party does not violate the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). This statement comes amidst concerns that the actions may impact his work. He emphasized his commitment to family responsibilities and combating scammers. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chaiyachanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, addressed the issue involving his mother, Mrs. Karuna Chidchob, who shared personal data of individuals criticizing the Chidchob family on social media. He stated that he only recently became aware of the situation and confirmed that all legal processes would be followed. Despite his love for his mother, he stressed the importance of having a strong will to effectively combat scammers. Mr. Chaiyachanok explained that the information shared was obtained through a power of attorney to file a police report, which grants legal access to such data. The Nang Rong Police Station in Buriram Prov ince reported to the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) that internal disciplinary actions have been taken. Mr. Chaiyachanok noted that he cannot interfere with matters concerning the Royal Thai Police. He reiterated that the PDPA does not constitute a violation in this context but acknowledged that the aggrieved party might pursue defamation actions. He expressed his desire to avoid such outcomes as they could result in victims on both sides. The controversy arose from allegations linking his family to casinos in Cambodia, which he refuted, highlighting the efforts of Mr. Newin Chidchob, president of Buriram United Football Club, in supporting refugee centers. In a conversation with his mother, Mr. Chaiyachanok reassured her that the situation would not adversely affect his work. He emphasized his commitment to his responsibilities, affirming that he would never misuse his power or family name. His mother, Mrs. Karuna, taught him these values, and he encouraged her not to worry. Mr. Chaiyachanok c onsulted with the PDPC director and confirmed that, according to PDPA regulations, no further action could be taken. However, he committed to pursuing all possible actions within the legal framework. He instructed the PDPC center to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. When questioned about the source of the information shared by Mrs. Karuna, Mr. Chaiyachanok confirmed that it was obtained legally through a power of attorney. He stated that the police would investigate the matter further, ensuring compliance with all regulations and laws. Mr. Chaiyachanok expressed his support for his mother, acknowledging the challenges they face due to their involvement in football and politics. Despite frequent defamation and insults, he assured that any repercussions would be addressed collectively as a family.
