Geneva: A parallel forum will be held in Geneva this September to exchange views on 'state responsibility' in addressing 'online scams'. The Cambodian military and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with an Airports of Thailand (AOT) delegation, inspected a scammer base in O'Semed, reflecting the Cambodian government's failure to enforce the law.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Maratee Nalita Andamo, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information and Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted the significance of a field visit by the Thai-Cambodian Situation Information Center, which led a delegation of ASEAN observers to a scammer base in Our Semeat, Oddar Meanchey Province, Cambodia. This visit, near the Chong Chom border crossing in Surin Province, was deemed important for providing specific details to international media and the community.
Since last year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been proactive, having organized meetings with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in December 2025, and held discussions with other countries, including the European Union, to address the issue of online scams. The Ministry is prioritizing this issue, with the Permanent Mission of Thailand in Geneva organizing parallel activities to discuss the government's responsibility in this matter.
Ms. Maratee also addressed Cambodia's use of a forum in France to discuss the Thai-Cambodian border situation, mentioning that the Thai Ambassador to France denied any lobbying efforts to prevent other countries from raising this issue. Additionally, during the ASEAN summit in the Philippines, leaders of Thailand and Cambodia agreed to cease provocative actions through rhetoric on international platforms not intended for such discussions.
Furthermore, Ms. Maratee reassured that Thai citizens need not worry about accusations against Thailand in international forums. If Thailand is a member of the forum, it will clarify the situation immediately. If not, a news report will be released to clarify the facts.
