Cabinet Approves the Holding of Elections of PAO Members

The Cabinet, during its meeting on 6 October 2020, approved the holding of the elections of Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) members in 76 provinces.

The Ministry of Interior reported that the terms of members of PAOs, Tambon (Subdistrict) Administrative Organizations, municipalities and two special administrative areas – the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and Pattaya City – ended in May 2018.

However, members of local administrative organizations have continued to remain in office following an announcement of the National Council for Peace and Order.

The Ministry of Interior and the Election Commission of Thailand held a meeting on 1 October 2020 to discuss preparations for elections of members of local administrative organizations. They agreed to propose the elections to the Cabinet for approval.

The Election Commission will provide training for local poll officials nationwide. After it is informed about the approval of the elections by the Cabinet, it will set the date for the elections to be held within 60 days.
