Cabinet Approves a Fund to Buy Additional 9.9 Million Doses of Pfizer Vaccine

The Cabinet, during its meeting on 30 August 2021, approved a budget of 4,745 million baht to buy additional 9,998,820 doses of COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine.

The 9.9 million doses will be given to six major target groups:

- Children aged 12-17 years;

- Pregnant women carrying for at least 12 weeks;

- Frontline medical and health personnel;

- Older people and those who have seven underlying health conditions;

- Foreigners residing in Thailand, with an emphasis on older persons and those with seven underlying health conditions;

- Students and diplomats travelling overseas where the destination countries require Pfizer vaccination.

However, the target groups may be adjusted in accordance with the emerging situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cabinet earlier approved a budget of 22,990 million baht for the procurement of 80 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, in order to contain the spread of the virus, reduce deaths, and minimize economic and social impacts.

The Government has set a target to acquire at least 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in 2021, comprising AstraZeneca (61 million doses), Sinovac (19 million doses), and Pfizer (20 million doses).
