Cabinet Approves 4 Billion Baht for Nationwide Flood Relief

Bangkok:The Thai Cabinet has approved a 4 billion baht central budget to provide relief for flood-affected areas across the country. This decision, announced by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, emphasizes that the distribution of funds will adhere to established criteria and legal guidelines, with oversight from deputy prime ministers in each region.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin Charnvirakul also announced the approval of the Chai Nat-Pa Sak-Gulf of Thailand drainage project, valued at over 165 billion baht. This project aims to improve flood prevention in central regions, including Bangkok, over the next eight years. It includes plans to enhance water storage using natural reservoirs and will be financed through loans. Relevant ministries and government bodies will collaborate to finalize the project details.

Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen has been appointed as the Cabinet representative to oversee flood management in the Bangkok area. Coordination and implementation of flood management strategies will be directed by Cabinet representatives, who are authorized to issue orders to relevant agencies.

The government has mobilized resources for relief efforts, including the provision of food and essential supplies to areas with high water levels. Efforts are underway to expedite water drainage and reopen roads in affected areas. The Prime Minister refuted claims that police delayed food distribution during his visit to flood-affected areas, affirming that there is no such policy in place.
