An interprovincial bus from Bangkok to Phetchabun flipped over and crashed as it was running downhill on a mountain road in Nakhon Thai district of Phitsanulok province on Monday morning, killing one woman passenger, and injuring eight others.
The predawn rollover crash happened near Kms 320-321 in Nakhon Thai district on the Phitsanulok-Khao Khor mountain road.
The bus belonged to Phitsanulok-Khao Yarnyont Co and was its way from Bangkok to Khao Khor.
The driver whose identity was not yet identified was reported to swerve a sharp curve while the bus was running downhill.
But he lost control and the bus tipped over on its side and rolled before crashing on the side of the hill.
He fled the scene after the accident.
One woman passenger identified as Ms Suchada Sakcharoenchaikul, a native of Khao Khor was killed.
Seven others were injured, and admitted to Nakhon Thai district hospital.
Police said they suspected that the bus driver might be drowsy while driving. They are now trying to find him for questioning.
